Review: Sigma brushes

This is a review for Sigma Brushes.

Yes yes, we have all heard about Sigma brushes.  MANY gurus on youtube have been reviewing them!
I bought their brush roll recently since I had been storing mine in a plastic baggie (yeah, I know... horrible...).  I was looking for a brush roll made out of fake leather so that i could clean it, since i have a bad habit of putting brushes away uncleaned.  Together with the brush roll, I also bought their SS 239 and 224 brush.

If you haven't heard about Sigma brushes, their numbers correspond to the MAC brushes.  For example, the SS239 is supposed to be a dupe of the MAC 239, and so on.  Sigma has a good collection of face and eye brushes on their website.

The Sigma brush roll can also be bought with their brush collection, but I really didn't need to buy so many brushes.  The nice part is that it currently comes with their travel sized SS217 brush, which is not available in full size.

Here is the brush roll.  The fake leather is thick and not flimsy at all.

Here it is, opened.  There is a good number of slots for your brushes.

It closes with a magnetic clasp.

Price: $20
Verdict:  I am quite happy with my purchase!

Now, on to the brushes.  I'm only going to review the SS239 and the SS217, since these are the two that I can compare to MAC brushes.  If you would like a review of the SS224, please let me know!

Here is the SS239 and the SS224.

MAC 239 vs SS239
The SS239 looks a lot different from the MAC 239, even at a first glance since the color of the hairs are different.  I found that using a white brush reminds me to clean up more, but I'm glad that I don't have to worry about the SS239 staining!

Here is a side by side comparison.

The SS239 is significantly bigger than the MAC 239.  I have seen other bloggers mention that the SS239 is too big for their lids and therefore they can only use them for highlighting.  Personally, I like the size since I can cover a larger area at once.

A little hard to see, but the SS239 is also thicker than the MAC 239.

Price: $9
Verdict:  This is not an exact dupe of the MAC239, but it serves the same purpose as long as you are OK with the bigger size.  I use the two brushes for different things, and I'm glad that I bought a different brush instead of buying two MAC 239s.

MAC 217 vs SS217

Since the SS217 is a travel size, it is significantly shorter, but the handle thick enough to hold comfortably.

Left: SS217, Right: MAC 217

You can see clearly that the MAC 217 is more tapered.

Price: Not available for individual sale
Verdict: The Sigma brush is thinner than the MAC brush.  I find it hard to blend with this brush.

Now, for the rant...

You can see that for the most part, I was pretty happy with my purchase... except for one thing...

Let's take a closer look at the SS239 that I have...

Do you see it?

Um, yeah, there's a fingerprint smudge in silver ink on the handle.
Trust me, this is NOT mine, since there is NO silver ink anywhere in my house.  It is the same color as the writing on the handles.

I wonder what I should do about it??  It's a bit creepy, and bummed me out on what was otherwise a good shopping experience!

*Note: Since writing this post, I have contacted Sigma and been asked to send back the brush for a replacement.  I'll update on how that went!  I'm considering buying the travel set in Black, so I hope this transaction goes well!

LOVE from Iyah! + Ask Me Anything!

Iyah sent me a thank you gift!
She kept repeating to me that "it's just a small package..."
WHATEVER girl, it was STUFFED!

The entire package...

It came with this sweet note!
I love her handwriting!  It is so cute!!

Taking a closer look at the upper left hand corner...

Iyah asked me if this is Japanese.  Yes, it is!
It says, "Dreams are what make a very important part of you!"
What a nice phrase!!
This Japanese handwriting actually goes really well with Iyah's handwriting!

We all know how much I love my Bath & Body Works Signature Collection!!

I definitely need stress relief!

Wow, this facial wash looks very interesting!

Whoops, blurry pic!
This is a Pond's beauty powder!

Hand sanitizer!  Always useful around this time of year!

Yummy lipgloss!

She also SEPARATELY scent me this card!

Thank YOU for being such a sweet person, Iyah!!!

Iyah posted recently about an interesting site: formspring.me
It's a site where readers can ask questions to you!  I'm going to copy what Iyah did and put a widget on the sidebar!  Please feel free to ask any questions, and I'll try to answer them!  You can even ask anonymously!

Quick Review: Gosh Twin Eyeshadow

This is a quick review of the Gosh Twin Eyeshadow!

I bought this when I was in London!
I don't remember how much this was!

This is a double-ended eyeshadow stick.
The applicator looks like this:

Here are some swatches!

This is one swipe!
The color is really beautiful and pigmented!!

I can't make up my mind whether I like this or not!!!!  The colors are fantastic, but this is really difficult to use! I'm not used to using a doe-foot-applicator-type-thingy to apply my eyeshadow!!!!

But the colors are too pretty to throw this out!  I wish I had someone to give this to, because while it's great, I'm not sure if it works for me!!!!  I guess loose eyeshadows and I don't get along!

Quick tip! Getting everything out!

Here's a quick tip to get the most out of any product that comes in a tube!

Times are tough and a lot of us want to save money!  I know that I want to make sure I get my money's worth out of each product I buy!!
This is a tube of cream I got in a swap from KT, but the concept is the same!

How do you get it all out?  Easy - cut it open!

Think you got every single bit squeezed out?
Look how much product there is still left in the tube!

I like to cut it straight across, and scrape out the insides with a small spoon!
It's so easy to cut it open!  But make sure you use something sanitary!

It's better to cut up the tube into multiple pieces.
There's usually the most left over in the part where the product squeezes out.
Take a look at this one!

That's A LOT of product!!!

Here's the massacred bottle after I was done with it!

And here's what I got for my effort!

WOW!!!  That's A LOT!!!!
I got nearly two weeks worth of product!
I slather my entire body with this everyday, so you can see how much cream I got!!!

Hope that helped!!

Review: Canmake Four Shiny Eyes Palette!

Grey eyeshadow has really been my thing recently, so I thought I'd share a palette I use for a quick grey look!

Canmake Four Shiny Eyes palette!

This is the Canmake Four Shiny Eyes palette in 05 - Bitter Coffee.

Canmake is a really cheap brand here.  Their products are hit or miss, but I sometimes buy one of their products if I want to try a new color.

(Their cheek products seem to be the best)

Let's take a closer look at the palette!

And some swatches!

As you can see, most of the colors are kind of a plummy taupey grey color.
The name Bitter Coffee makes me think of a dark brown palette, but this is really not brown!

All the colors are pretty shimmery, but not very glittery as many drugstore palettes are.
The third color from the left does have a bit of glitter in it.  The surprising part is that it is green glitter!!!! Even more surprisingly, the green glitter goes well with this grey!

A quick EOTD since I haven't posted one in a while!

Hope everyone is doing great!!!

Favorite products 2009!

Happy New Year everyone!  Thanks for reading my blog!!!
今年もよろしくお願いします!!!

Here are a few of my favorite products for 2009!

I've always loved makeup and bath/body products, but blogging really opened up my eyes!

Best Skin Care items:
Lush Brazen Honey Fresh Face Mask
Read my review here!

I got a sample of this while in London and now I LUST over it!
It is three times more expensive in Japan so I won't buy any here!
(picture from the Lush website)

VOV Apple Vinegar Peeling Wash Off Mask
Read my review here!

I got this in Seoul.  It's cheap, and it really makes a huge difference in my skin texture!

Fair & Lovely Skin Clarity Anti-Marks Fairness Cream
Blair kindly sent this to me - and I LOVE IT.  It absorbs very quickly into the skin!
I can smell the Niacinamide in it, so I know it will work!
Thanks Jamilla for letting me know what that smell is!

Rohto Gokujun Hadalabo Hyaluronic Acid toner
This has been my favorite toner (for moisturizing the skin) for a long time!

Best Makeup items:
EDM Intensive foundation in Light Olive
This foundation really gives me good coverage!  While both Golden Light and Light Olive work, this one seems to be a tad more natural!

(picture from the EDM website)

Revlon ColorStay Liquid Liner
This is a cheap (in the US) eyeliner which really stays put!!

 (picture from Amazon.com)

Milani Luminous Mineral Blush
I got this in Guam.  This is often called a Nars Orgasm dupe.  I just like the golden peach color!
I used it with an angled brush since it didn't show up with a regular brush!
 (picture from Cherryculture.com)

Cover Girl Lash Blast Waterproof
I'm always on the lookout for good mascaras which give me volume and are waterproof!
(Picture from Covergirl.com)

Best rediscovered item:
False Eyelashes
Most of mine are from Daiso since I always want to try a new kind!

And the best glue for falsies -

This is seriously the BEST falsies glue!  Your eyelashes won't go anywhere!

Best brand which I now obsess over:
BATH AND BODY WORKS SIGNATURE COLLECTION!!!
I don't need to explain, do I?
You all know about my obsession, right??

Best Brushes:
EDM Flat Top Brush
Cruelty free, and VERY soft!
This gives me great coverage when using mineral foundation!
AND it's cheap!
(picture from the EDM website)

EDM Long Handled Kabuki Brush
Similar to the FTK!  I like this one better when applying setting powder!
(picture from the EDM website)

MAC 217 & 239
No explanation necessary, right?  I need to get another one of each!

(pictures from the MAC website)

Best Blogging Experiences:
