Review: L'Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream - sold every 3 seconds around the world!?

This is a review of the L'Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream. I bought this when I went to New York.

What it does: (from L'Occitane's website)
One of our best-selling Shea Butter Hand Creams is sold every three seconds around the world! Enriched with 20% Shea Butter, this super-creamy balm penetrates quickly to protect, nourish and moisturize hands. Honey, almond extracts and coconut oil are blended with Shea Butter to create this extremely effective formula. The rich texture leaves hands soft and smooth with no oily traces, and can be applied as often as needed.

Price: $28 for 5.2oz. You can also purchase the 1oz version for $10, which I often see near the checkout aisle at Sephora.

Pros:
  • This is a very rich hand cream, and does a great job of moisturizing my hands
  • It absorbs quickly into my hands, and does not leave them slippery
  • No residue on my hands
  • Very minimal scent! I hate it when I'm trying to eat and my hands smell strongly from the hand lotion I just used!
Cons:
  • The packaging. I don't like metal tubes because they are hard to squeeze out towards the end.  Remember when toothpaste came in metal tubes?  I hated those!
  • If you don't like the scent of shea butter, this product may not be for you.
  • Pricier than other hand lotions

Would I repurchase? Yes, during the cold weather. Although this is a pricey hand cream, I think it is really worth it if you use hand lotion often. I also like the small tubes to give as gifts.

I also bought a few of the other scents in this line, and I'm looking forward to trying them out.

Hope you enjoyed this review!

xoxo, K

  1. I love this hand cream! In fact, my middle son's hands get super dry and flakey due to work so I gave him one of my tubes of this lotion and he likes it enough that when he ran out, he asked me to get another one for him. He was kind of shocked at the price but feels it's worth it since it really helps his hands.

BTW, I can FINALLY do the disqus commenting well because of Safari. It's a good thing that I already had Safari downloaded on my PC.

during winter my hand crackles (sometimes till it bleeds) and I touch the area of my eyes often too. Many hand creams/lotions are useless, I just apply apply and apply and my hands are still dry yet drip with the cream/lotion. not to mention that they irritate my eyes too.
This one is Heaven on Earth! I hate its price but I can't live without it! does not irritate and makes my hand super soft =D

BTW, the 30ml one comes in a metal look-alike plastic tube ;)

  3. Ouch - I remember how my hands bled when I lived in Tokyo! If it's that bad, I suggest using vaseline. It's oily and gross, but if you apply it to your hands before going to sleep and slip on cotton gloves, it helps a lot. I also used to apply olive oil to my body this winter since my skin was so dry and itchy that I woke up in the night!

Did NOT know that the small one comes in a plastic tube! I wish the big one did as well!

  4. So glad that you can comment now!! And I'm so sorry that Disqus is causing you trouble!

Yeah, sometimes a more expensive cream is worth it if you don't need to keep reapplying all the time. I would also think that this scent fits your son better!

  5. I have big and lots of small versions of this! But actually...I much prefer the clarins hand cream because i find it absorbs much quicker. Although the problem with the clarins hand cream is that it smells much stronger and like 'old people' (accordingto the bf)
